Boo #1 – State Of UK Websites

Listen!

Does your website have the basics…

In June 2010, Thomson Local commissioned Analytics SEO to conduct the UK’s first SEO audit of business websites.  Their report The State of UK Business Websites 2010 revealed the following statistics:

  • 74% of businesses have no basic website analytics software for tracking site visits
  • Only 2% of all businesses used advanced website analytics software
  • 82% have no HTML sitemap
  • 75% have no XML sitemap
  • 69% have no Robots.txt file configured
  • 71% have no Custom 404 page configured

These are some big numbers (apart from 2% we accept, but it’s the 98% we need to consider!)

At Zedoary we believe that measuring is the key to development – until you understand how people are using a website you can not plan to develop it.

So if you know your website is missing out on the above, or if you don’t know if you are missing them you should drop us a line.

New “one-page” micro website

We have just launched a “one-page” micro website for SP Office Services.

This approach gives an affordable website with scope to expand simply in the future.

Being just one page does not mean the website has to be dull however. With the use of jQuery the Twitter and the Contact links are made much more exciting.

Visit the website and have a click to see!

New Look Website for Zedoary

Yes, the obvious update first that this is a new look website for Zedoary.  Still much to do, like moving house there is the old furniture to try to rearrange and little bits to tweak.

However if you keep following us on Twitter at @Zedoary you will be kept up to date with progress and the big switchover day when the current Zedoary is 301ed.

Business Networking in Southampton

The latest website from Zedoary is an in house project to create a web portal for all businesses in the Southampton area that take part in business networking.

This website aims to list all the different networking events in the SO postcode area. Additionally it has a forum for online networking, a business directory and even a personal message system.

If you are a business who has offices in the SO area (that’s the only criteria) then please feel free to get a free listing, sign up for the forum and join in.

Candidate Makes Twitter Mistake

After our series of articles looking at whether candidates locally are using social media to help promote their campaigns we can now show an example of how not to use it.

George Hollingbery the Conservative Candidate for the Meon Valley Constituency decided to use humour and irony on twitter. Now there is nothing wrong with that in principle, the British people are generally welcoming of a good ironic comment when delivered with that distinctive tone of voice and a wink. Twitter however strips that from communication so what we were left with was:

It was a badly thought out comment that should not have been made and was quickly deleted.

I fully support the use of this medium in the General Election but only when done well.  So far I have seen few examples of well thought out and well executed online campaigns using any version of social media or blogging.
